Education & Qualifications: Jun Hong graduated from Cardiff University, UK, with a Bachelor of Laws in 2011. He was admitted to the High Court of Malaya in 2013 and holds a Diploma in International Arbitration, making him an affiliate of the Malaysian Institute of Arbitrators (MIArb). Additionally, he earned a Master of Commercial Law from University Malaya.

Professional Experience:

  1. Litigation Expertise: Jun Hong regularly serves as lead counsel in a wide range of contentious matters across the Magistrates Court, Sessions Court, High Court, and Court of Appeal. He began his career at two of Malaysia’s leading legal firms, Messrs. Shearn Delamore & Co and Messrs. Lee Hishamuddin Allen & Gledhill. He later oversaw the litigation, corporate, and conveyancing departments at a boutique firm in Kuala Lumpur before establishing JHYCO.

  2. Land and Construction Disputes: Jun Hong acted as counsel in a significant judicial review application for strata title owners against a state authority’s decision to compulsorily acquire land for the MRT Project under the Land Acquisition Act 1960. His role extended to acting as co-counsel at the Court of Appeal. He has also led actions involving payment claims under the Construction Industry Payment and Adjudication Act 2012 (CIPAA).

  3. Banking and Insolvency Disputes: Jun Hong has successfully handled numerous debt recovery cases for banking institutions, including initiating bankruptcy, winding-up, and foreclosure proceedings. He has advised on fraudulent transfers during liquidation and provided legal opinions to liquidators and banking institutions.

  4. Contractual and Tortious Disputes: Known for his steadfast approach, Jun Hong has defended and pursued various high-stakes contractual disputes, including defending claims under Friendly Loan Agreements and safeguarding construction companies against unlawful contract termination. His legal experience extends to civil fraud, breach of fiduciary duties, and the tort of conspiracy. He has also represented a Chinese railway company in a contractual dispute exceeding RM 3 million and managed debt recovery for an international logistics company.

    Additionally, Jun Hong has acted as co-counsel in defamation suits, including a case brought by the Chairman of a Chinese education association and another involving a letter sent to the Royal Members of Malaysia. He has successfully defended negligence, libel, and malicious falsehood claims, including libel actions filed against local newspapers by notable figures such as a national hockey player and a partner at a prominent Malaysian law firm.

  5. Corporate Disputes: Jun Hong has extensive experience in shareholders' and directors' disputes, particularly under the Companies Act 1965 and 2016. His involvement in corporate litigation includes handling shareholder disputes, rectification of registers, and tort of conspiracy cases, both locally and abroad.

  6. Merger and Acquisition: Jun Hong advises both foreign and Malaysian corporations on a wide array of corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, restructuring, and property finance. He assists with cross-border transactions, drafting and negotiating commercial documents, and advising on the setup of trusts, charities, and corporate structures.

    Recently, Jun Hong has provided legal guidance on the acquisition of a local resort worth RM 30 million and the acquisition of a local development company valued at RM 13.5 million.
